Player Commitment

The Columbia Angels is a select baseball team and players are performing at an elite level.  Therefore, players are expected to be fully committed to their participation with the Angels.  Full commitment means: you will not play for other select teams, you will attend all scheduled games and practices, and, most importantly, you will make Angels baseball a priority.  By making your commitment to the Angels a priority, you are expected to plan your time for other activities and academic studies so that you are able to participate in all scheduled baseball activities.

Committing to the Angels also means frequent weekend travel outside the Houston metro area.  Players are expected to participate in all tournaments regardless of location.

If a player and his family are unable to make the expected commitment, they should not agree to play with the Angels organization.

Organization Benefits

The Angels organization and coaches will provide players with opportunities to participate in the highest level of competition at local, statewide and national tournaments.  Players are provided with numerous opportunities to appear before college and major league scouts.  Players are also provided with the opportunity to be part of a well-established and well-respected baseball organization that is locally and nationally recognized in the select baseball community. Over the last 10 years, the coaches have developed relationships with various scouts and recruiters around the state and the nation.  These relationships have provided many players with the opportunity to participate in collegiate and professional baseball (see our Angels Legacy page).

The Angels provide experienced coaches to instruct players.  Angels coaches will never sacrifice a player's health or future for a win.  The Angels organization is not only committed to developing a player's physical talent but to helping them develop emotionally and mentally.  Players will have numerous opportunities to participate in high level and intense competition and develop the emotional fortitude to perform in similar situations.  Experience with the Angels will prepare each player with the skills and maturity needed to perform at the post high school level.

Team Web Site

The Web site is our primary source for the dissemination of team information.  We will post the current week's schedule and all important updates (schedule changes, game cancellations, rainouts, etc.) on the home page.  It is the player's responsibility to check the Web site before calling your coach and before heading out for your games.  We strive to keep the information as current as possible.

We will try to have weekend tournament information posted by Wednesday evening.  Check the Web site for game times and locations.  If the information is not posted by Wednesday evening, we have not received it yet.  It will be posted as soon as it becomes available.

The team Web site is viewed frequently by scouts and recruiters for the most current player information.  It is each player's responsibility to ensure that the posted information is accurate - especially your jersey number.  If the Web site information is incorrect, email the webmaster with the correct information so that it can be updated.  Click here to email the webmaster.

Team Practice

Practice sessions for all teams will be held each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Houston Baptist University.  Practices are optional, however players are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to participate in batting practice and various skill building exercises.

Team Assignment

Players will be chosen for each team, however you may be asked to play on another Angel team as determined by the coaches.  This flexibility allows the Angels to put together the most competitive teams and provide the players with a greater variety of opportunities.  This is particularly true in the fall when seniors are traveling to the various colleges to appear before scouts and recruiters.

A player list or roster will usually be posted with the tournament game schedule or few days after the schedule is posted.  Check the tournament rosters for your team and if you do not see your name, check the others - you may be assigned to a different team for that tournament.

Uniform
Players should wear their team jersey, grey pants, and a red Anaheim Angels hat.  If you have not been issued a jersey, wear your jersey from the last season or if you are not a former Angel, wear any jersey with a number.

It is the player's responsibility to ensure that number on their uniform matches the number posted on the team roster.  If the roster on the Web site is incorrect, email the webmaster with the correct number.  Click here to email the webmaster.

Missing a Game

If you must miss a game, you are expected to notify your coach as soon as you know you will not be available (the earlier the better) and no less the 24 hours before the game (with the exception of an emergency).  Lack of basic courtesy not only lets your team down but also prohibits the coaches from getting another player to fill your position or canceling games if needed. Players who cannot demonstrate this basic courtesy will not be asked back the following season.

Notification Procedure

LEAGUE GAMES:  Email Coach Hill at least 24 hours in advance.  Click here to email Coach Hill.

WEEKEND TOURNAMENTS:  Email Coach Hill and call your coach.  Click here to email Coach Hill.

Team Travel

Arrangements
The Angels organization will make travel arrangements for all players and coaches for out of state tournaments.  Players are expected to travel and stay with the team.  This allows us to provide players with the lowest cost possible.  Travel arrangement will be posted on the internet a week or two prior to the corresponding tournament.

Supervision
Two or more coaches will travel with the team, coordinate travel and supervise players.  Players will be expected to behave appropriately.  Click here to see our Travel Ground Rules.

Benefit
Players are expected to participate in tournaments that require team travel.  The travel experience is part of developing a well-rounded and mature player.  College coaches and scouts expect and appreciate that former Angels have been exposed to team travel and competing on the road.
